About this place
Neuschwanstein is the obvious first castle for Germany AroundTrail. Built for King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century, it combines theatrical medieval fantasy, mountain scenery, and one of Europe's most recognizable silhouettes. The castle is usually visited from Fussen or Munich, with viewpoints around Marienbrucke and nearby Hohenschwangau making the whole valley a compact but high-demand travel stop.
