The Malerweg is the signature walking route of Saxon Switzerland and gives the Germany seed a visually distinctive trail beyond the Alps and Black Forest. The route follows sandstone table mountains, forest ravines, cliff viewpoints, river crossings, and villages that inspired Romantic painters. It pairs naturally with Dresden and can be hiked as the full multi-day route or sampled through day hikes around Bastei, Rathen, Koenigstein, and Schmilka.
